o ใช้ในรูป used to + กริยาช่อง 1 จะหมายถึงสิ่งที่เคยทำมาในอดีต (ตอนนี้เลิกทำแล้ว)
เช่น We used to live in that house.
เช่น We used to live in that house.
o ถ้าใช้ร่วมกับ verb to be ในรูป verb to be + used to + กริยาช่อง 1 แปลว่า เคยชิน คุ้นเคย เช่น They are used to city life.
o เมื่อใช้ในรูปปฏิเสธ
§ ในรูป used to + กริยาช่อง 1 จะใช้ didn't เข้ามาช่วย เช่น Tom didn't use to drink. หรืออาจจะใช้ never (คำกริยาวิเศษณ์) มาช่วย โดยวางไว้หน้า used to เช่น I never used to be late for class. (ฉันไม่เคยมาเรียนสาย)
§ ในรูป verb to be + used to + กริยาช่อง 1 ให้เติม not ข้างหลัง verb to be เช่น She is not (isn't) used to hot food. (เธอไม่คุ้นกับอาหารรสเผ็ด)
o เมื่อใช้ในประโยคคำถาม
§ วาง did ไว้หน้าประโยค (ที่มีรูป used to + กริยาช่อง 1) เช่น Did you use to go there quite often?
§ วาง verb to be ไว้หน้าประโยค (ที่มีรูป verb to be + used to + กริยาช่อง 1)ซึ่งจะแปลว่า คุ้นเคย เช่น Is he used to hot food?
CONVERSATION 1
A: Steve and Scott used to fight each other a lot when they were kids.
B: Kids are always like that.
A: Did you use to fight when you were a kid?
B: All the time.
